Sensei Paul Richards 5th Dan

Sensei Paul Richards 5th Dan is the Instructor and founder of the rapidly expanding Karate self defence and fitness club, Streetline Defence. It was founded in early 1996, and over the years the club has diversified a little, but the roots and foundation continue to lie in Kimura Shukokai Karate.

Sensei Paul has had the opportunity and honour to train with many karate greats, most notably, the late Sensei Tani the founder of the Shukokai style, in Japan 1994, and many times with the late Sensei Kimura, who propagated the art around the world and regularly taught in England.

Sensei Paul's diversity in teaching and training methods came about after 20 years of experience in the Security industry, working in nightclubs across the country and also doing body guarding. Sensei Paul has used his experience and effectively transformed this into his teaching at the Streetline Defence dojos. With the ever changing climate of society, Sensei Paul has found that Shukokai Karate teaches effective techniques that can be applied on the street for defence.

From an early age, Sensei Paul always had a love for boxing. Therefore his training methods coupled with Shukokai technique, generates power and impact on the Streetline - developing an extremely powerful and effectual street defence. However, Sensei Paul still has his grounding and foundations in Shukokai Karate training himself under the watchful eye of Shihan Eddie Daniels 8th Dan SKF and World chief instructor.

Part of his diversity has led Sensei Paul to teach a Boxing combat class, more strenuous than your typical boxercise class - don't be confused by such! Boxing combat involves not only circuits but pads and boxing type training, including controlled sparring. Living and growing up in the inner city has had the effect of making this class very popular and caters for all levels of fitness, age and ability.

Sensei Paul also offers private 1 to 1 sessions, where a routine can be geared around the individual and their needs.

There is a quote at the Streetline club which has been used since the early days of growth which states "it's your right to feel safe"

Sensei Paul says...

"Over the years, I have used a concept of training which I developed myself called Indomitable Mind Set. This is when you have an ability to set realisitic and obtainable goals in your tarining, work, or business environment - with the ultimate aim to excel. The basic principles are; Progression, Overload, Rest, Adaptation, Dedication all priming you to Excel [PORADE]

By using these principles I have been able to push my body and mind to the extreme. It all commenced in 1988 when I completed a fundraising event for a physiotherapist department at a local hospital. I managed to raise £400. It was a sponsered event and I completed 2400 sit-ups in one hour non stop! This inspired me over the years, and i was determined that i could do more and more if i put my mind into it.

I have studied many training routines and principles, and have looked into different nutritional needs for exercise and activities. Training with the World Fitness King Paddy Dole - who was the worlds fittest man at the time, holding over 100 world records, increased my knowledge in fitness and training.

The major fundraiser including those for charities I have completed are as follows:

 1988 - 2400 sit-ups non-stop in an hour
1996 - 12 hour non-stop training event in Aid of World Shukokai Karate Championships 2004 - 12 hour non-stop stepathon in Aid of Islamic Relief and World Shukokai Karate Championships and raised £2500
2008 - 2000 squat-jumps non-stop in Aid of World Shukokai Karate Championships
2009 - fundraiser in Aid of the people in Gaza and European Shukokai Karate Championships [5000 punches on a punch bag non-stop, 1000 hits on a tyre with a sledge hammer non-stop, 1000 kicks on a pad non-stop, all completed in 1 hour and 40 minutes]
2009 - Megathon, another upandcoming future event coming soon, possibly in November. Watch this space for more info

Alongside all of this, I have competed on the English National Karate Team WKF for 5 years with Ticky Donavon and Wayne Otto as coach winning numerous International and National titles

I am currently very proud to be the SKF National Coach and Team Captain
